How to Copy or Duplicate Projects in Inventor Keeping References!

In countless situations, the inventor and other 3D modeling software users have the need to copy or reuse an assembly with all its parts and references. This process usually involves copying., changing the name and maintaining links between newly created files. For many users this is a complex process that can result in the loss of information and even accidental alteration of the original files.. Today's tip for Autodesk Inventor users.

No Inventor, through the vault (external project management software), there is this possibility. But if you don't work with Vault? So check out some options:

  • Copy the folder with all parts, paste in new location, rename and reference file by file (and could be thousands) through a boring process, time-consuming and error prone;
  • use the "Design Assistant", program that comes with the Inventor installation, that make it possible to view the entire structure of the project, and it also allows you to rename your project without losing references between files.. But another process really "painful", difficult and productive"ZERO";
  • Or....use CLONEFOLDER, in our opinion, the best option so far!

CloneFolder is a tool that allows you to rename and copy a batch of IAM/IDW files / DWG and referenced files (including replacement parts and Ole-references, etc) to another location and update the files referenced in the IAM/IDW file / DWG!

Check out the program's user guide below.. You will be able to find and replace the names of all the files in your project through automatic search in just a few minutes!

Unfortunately this plugin has been discontinued from the Autodesk Labs platform. But it works without problems for versions 2011, 2012 e 2013. We didn't test in the version 2014. Great plugin for all Autodesk Inventor users!
